We're one of the larger vanpool companies in the Northern Virginia area, and a full-service one: a fully staffed office in Fredericksburg with office and maintenance personnel Monday through Friday, 24-hour roadside emergency assistance, and spare vans for back-up. We do most of the maintenance on our vans ourselves.

Refer a rider, get a gift card

Get a $150 gift card for referring a new rider, and up to $300 for referring a new vanpool. The rider or vanpool must be in good standing for 3 months before the incentive is provided. Contact us for details.

How vanpooling works

One van, one route, a group of commuters who share the ride — and the cost.

Join or form a group
Grab a seat on an existing route, or bring at least 5 coworkers and start a new one.
We provide the van
Fuel, tolls, parking, insurance and maintenance are included in your monthly fare.
Meet at your pick-up spot
The van stays with your group. One or more riders are approved to drive.
Ride in together
Skip the solo drive, use the HOT lanes and split the cost with your group.

Starting a new route with ABS

We provide the van — 7, 12 or 15 passengers (other sizes depending on availability)
No lease required — we bill each rider individually, so no collecting fares
Monthly fare includes fuel, tolls, parking, insurance and more
We handle maintenance and provide a back-up van if needed
24-hour roadside service and a full-time staff

What's included in the monthly fare?

Fuel, tolls, parking, insurance and maintenance are included. We bill each rider individually, so nobody has to collect fares.

Do we have to sign a lease to start a vanpool?

No. There is no lease required to start a new route with ABS Van Rentals.

How many riders does a new vanpool need?

A new vanpool needs at least 5 riders, depending on the van size.

Can I use commuter benefits to pay?

Many riders can. In 2026 the commuter benefit limit is up to $340 per month — check with your employer to see if you qualify.

Who drives?

Most vanpools share the driving. One or more riders in each group are approved to drive.

What if the van breaks down?

Call our 24-hour vanpool roadside assistance line at 1-866-329-3471. We keep spare vans for back-up, and our maintenance staff handles most repairs in-house.
